Pickett's Airport Display Comes With Interesting Historic Facts

FEBRUARY 3, 2012
EL PASO Late evening on February 2nd found Pickett setting up a public display using his 1916 Dodge Brothers Touring Car along with volutneers Ruben Munoz and Eric Mallo. This type of car was the first "mechanized" vehicle used by the U.S. Army. Picket provided the car from his personal collection, the materials (at his own expense) and the research, provided in signage on the display, for the public to enjoy, and educate themselves, while visiting the El Paso International Airport. The vehicle represents a lot of history that people will read about along the likes of Black Jack Pershing, Pancho Villa and others. This was the age of military expeditions into Mexcio and the tale of the U.S. military using "aeroplanes". Read all about it the next time you go to the El Paso airport!!!!

TAC NAMES REP. JOE PICKETT
The Texas Association of Counties has named Rep. Joe Pickett a Friend of County Government for his work during the 82nd Legislative Session. The Representative will be receiving the award Monday, February 6, 2012, at the El Paso County Commissioner's Court Meeting, 9:30 a.m., El Paso County Courthouse.
The decision to honor Pickett was made simple for a number of reasons. TAC appreciates the leadership he has shown on transportation issues, authoring HB 563, HJR 63 and HB 630. These pieces of legislation give local governments some of the tools they need to address local transportation challenges.
“TAC appreciates Rep. Pickett’s belief in local control and in preserving decision-making authority at the county level,” said TAC Legislative Director Paul Sugg. “TAC values his background in local government and we know this background influences much of what Pickett does as a legislator.”
TAC is a statewide non-profit organization that represents counties at the Capitol, conducts required continuing education for officials and provides other needed services for county government.
